TITLE: Day Treatment Center and Independent Living Skills Counselor

ACCOUNTABILITY: This is a blended position, with the staff member working in both Rubicon Day Center and the Independent Living Program under the direction of the Director of Behavioral Healthcare. The staff member will flex his/her time between the two programs at the direction of the program supervisors and the Director of Behavioral Health. The counselor will be familiar with consumers in both programs and help support both programs in having adequate staffing, clinical continuity between programs, and supporting consumers in transitioning from one program to the other.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s degree in clinical/counseling psychology or in clinical social work with experience in the field of community mental health; experience in day rehabilitative settings preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social services or a related field or additional experience in lieu of the academic degree.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in the field of mental health.
- The ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with clients, co-workers and supervisor;
- Knowledge of community resources desirable.
- The ability to communicate effectively, both in written and oral forms;
- Knowledge of the problems and needs of people with serious and persistent mental illness;
- Bilingual Spanish/English desired;
- The abilities to travel efficiently among work-sites throughout the County;
- Must be able to drive clients on outings so will need to provide proof of valid driver’s license, current auto insurance and acceptable motor vehicle report.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- *Provide case management to assist clients while maintaining client records, reports and charting, and formulating treatment and discharge plans;
- *Develop and lead group therapy sessions, process and skill building groups. Topics include daily goal setting, symptom management, social skills, expressive arts and tasks related to gardening, and/or other psychosocial actives;
- *Adjust hours in ILS and RDC as directed by supervisor;
- *Teach groups/classes in independent living skills;
- *Perform psycho-social assessments of potential clients;
- *Facilitate meetings with families of consumers;
- *Maintain relationships with other agencies, board and care operators, case managers, conservators, psychiatrists and other agents to assure continuity of services to consumers while enrolled in the program.
- *Network with other agencies for referrals and recruitment;
- *Participate in case conferences, staff meetings and agency training;
- Perform crisis intervention, as required;
- Serve as a resource to staff and clients in an area of expertise;
- Drive when necessary, including transporting clients and shopping for program:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the RDC Program Manager or Director of Behavioral Healthcare.

HOURS: This is a full-time non-exempt position.
COMPENSATION: $33,950 - $37,400, depending upon experience.
