1. Board member Hank Royal honored by NAACP Founding
Board member Hank Royal was honored with a Lifetime Achievement award
from the Richmond Branch of the NAACP at its 26th Annual "Freedom Life
Membership Banquet," on Saturday, February 10, 2007, at the Richmond
Memorial Convention Center.
Hank received this award on the
occasion of his retirement as Senior Congressional Case Worker and
Liaison in Congressman George Miller’s West Contra Costa County
office, a role he carried out for more than 30 years. Hank is also a

5. Rubicon selected to lead 2 major new initiatives in the East Bay Rubicon
has secured almost $2 million in new resources and will be leading two
major new initiatives that will help people move out of poverty and homelessness in the Bay Area.
The
first is the Contra Costa County Adult Mental Health Service Act (MHSA)
Full Service Partnership grant for $1.4 million. We will serve 150
persons with mental illness who are homeless and at serious risk of
homelessness and who are not currently being served through the mental
health system. We will be partnering with Familias Unidas, Asian
Pacific Psychological Services, Mental Health Consumer Concerns, and Anka BHS (formerly Phoenix Programs) on this initiative .
The
second is a two year grant with the CA Employment Development
Department (EDD) for $500,000. The focus of this funding initiative is
minimum wage workers who have been consistently employed in a minimum
wage job for three years. The award to Rubicon has the distinction of
being the only one in its category to be funded throughout the state.
We are partnering with Alameda County Social Services Agency and
Berkeley City College on this initiative.
