1) A packed house! Rubicon’s Grand Opening in Berkeley on November 3

It was standing room only on November 3 at our Berkeley Grand Opening Celebration! Over 225 people helped us officially open our doors!

Honorary Co-Hosts Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates (represented by staff) and Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, Christien Kafton of NBC11, a distinguished Honorary Host Committee, and the Rubicon Board of Directors celebrated with Rubicon Bakery coffeecakes and an official ribbon cutting. The event was held at our new offices at
1918 Bonita Avenue, close to the heart of downtown Berkeley.

We want to thank our event sponsors: Andronico’s Market, Union Bank of California, Import Tile Company, Green Leaf, NBC11, and the Contra Costa Times. And we also want to thank everyone who contributed to the event’s success including the Honorary Hosts, Honorary Host Committee, Event Chairs, Rubicon Board members, and Rubicon staff. Thank you all!

3) Participant Profile: Roshawn Youngblood

ImageRoshawn heard about Rubicon from a friend who said that Rubicon helps young fathers get back on their feet. He knew that he needed to make a change in his life in order to support his 4 kids (ages 9, 8-year-old twins, and 3). He was unemployed and on a path to trouble.

Roshawn went through Rubicon’s 2-week employment training program. He used our
Career Center to look for jobs and put together his resume.

Roshawn now works at the Bio-Rad data center which is open 24 hours a day.

“I like using computers and I really like problem solving,” he says.

“I like that Rubicon has relationships with companies because that means that I don’t have to make cold calls. A relationship is already there and I just need to make it happen. Rubicon really went the extra mile for me.”

4) Donate to Rubicon Programs!

Help us to help people like Roshawn.

Walk out any door in the Bay Area and you can see first hand that homelessness and poverty are daunting challenges. Rubicon Programs solves these problems one person at a time. We serve over 4,000 people a year - most of whom are homeless or living in poverty or are diagnosed with a severe mental disability.

We need your support in order to provide the comprehensive and much-needed services that we do. We ask that you contribute a meaningful amount, whether that is $50, $100, $500 or more.

You can donate online (it’s secure) by clicking here:
