The Mental Health Legal Services Project (MHLSP) delivers legal services following a mental health-focused medical legal partnership model to low-income residents of West Contra Costa County who are living with mental illness. With the help of an Equal Justice Works fellowship grant and support from the California Bar Foundation, this program began in 2009. We work with two medical clinics, the West County Adult Mental Health Clinic and the Richmond Health Center; and with a local community based non-profit which provides mental health services primarily to Spanish speaking individuals. Within Rubicon, we work closely with the Bridges to Home program in our Mental Health and Wellness division. Bridges serves chronically homeless, seriously mentally ill adults in West County. By taking referrals from and working closely with these providers, the MHLSP offers legal services that are integrated with mental health treatment, addressing issues that require legal expertise and advocacy.
Service Eligibility
Individuals must be referred by one of our partnering providers or be accessing services within Rubicon’s Mental Health and Wellness division. We cannot accept self-referrals.
